Clipper Burn & Clipper Vac

TYPICAL GROOMING SALON PROBLEM:

Clipper Burn  - a rash or sore on inflamed skin, caused by
clippers.  It is painful for the animal and is caused by an overheated blade. The heat is caused by the friction created by the side to side motion by the blades in order to clip hair. The solution is to rotate blades as soon heat is created.

The pet will scratch the infected area becoming raw and painful sores. The open sores can become infected and scar permanently; in some cases, the pet's hair never grows back.

Although groomers know to watch for heat and to rotate blades, it does not always happen.During the rush to complete the many grooms of the day, groomers often forget and dogs get burned. Most owners will not notice the burns, but their dog will.
While setting up my grooming "shop", I had the chance to decide how much I would spend on equipment.

I decided that if I am going to be different, that also meant that I would look at equipment differently. I decided not to look at the price but rather the benefits it would have for my puppy clients.

One of my first major purchase was my clipper vac. Most shops do not invest in this product as it represents a huge expense. I believe that expense is outweighed by the over all benefits that it offers.

CLIPPER VAC SOLUTION:

Feature: Constant airflow cools the blade

Benefit: Because the clipper blade stays cool, the risk of
                     clipper burn is significantly minimized

My dog was groomed at a new groomers. 3-4 days later we felt black crusty scabs on shoulders.Took to vet, examined and found 1/2 of back to tip of tail just like pic you posted. My dog NEVER itched, licked or chewed areas. Vet said pollen allergy and shaved areas, gave pred, Ceph and medicated shampoo. Fungal tests all normal. When I returned to same groomer for medicated shampoo bath, groomer seemed 'sheepish and quiet'. (Groomer used to work at Vets then opened her own shop) For 3 more medicated shampoo bathing at same groomer my dog became more and more hesitant to go in. The 4th and final med shampoo bath, my dog kept backing up on rear legs, head down with trying to remove collar. I asked owner if I could help my dog in bathing tub with her assistant. Glad I did - My dog is 95 lbs and 3X tried to leap out of tub. Observations: 1.) my bottle of medicated shampoo and other products, (not mine) laying on sides in water in tub.2.) Groomer only sprayed grooming table. 3.) Didn't sanitize grooming blades 4.( she usually works on small dogs) 4.) could her initial shampoo have caused this? My dog is large breed and wonder if grooming tool used was dull or dirty. I am in a dilemma and want to find the truth ..Since groomer and vet are 'friends' wondering if someone is 'covering up' for someone. If it was an accident, ok, fine, I understand - if it is 'lying'/covering up and not telling me, that's when I go 'nutso' Pls respond, need your help. Don't want to 'accuse' anybody yet. Oh, btw, I did ask vet if could have to do with groomer's shampoo, tools - she denied it.

Many, Many Thanks, Melinda
